Editor’s note: All names are redacted due to privacy, as the story is still developing. All of these claims are alleged, and will be summarized. Some of the claims are already proven to be false, based on past reporting done by The Solano Pulse such as delaying the painting of the Ethnic Minority Coalition’s mural.
Late in the evening of Feb. 1, a Solano Pulse reporter was included on an email from an external account, sent to the Solano College Governing Board and a select few Administrators. The email contains allegations of anti-black racism from various managers, focused on discrimination aimed at both black employees and students.
The email opens up by expressing concern about the leadership capabilities of the administration, emphasizing that the experiences listed are only a small look into the claims. They then transition into the next paragraph, where they allege that their claims were redirected to “low-level leadership” or were dismissed, which resulted in the group contacting Solano’s local chapter for The National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (The NAACP). However, they claim that from their perspective “no meaningful corrective action has followed.”
The main allegations start in paragraph four, in which they claim that various black employees had left the college due to feeling marginalized, even alleging that an administrator was questioning an employee’s credibility because of their racial background.
In addition to this, the emailer claims that two higher-ups were collaborating with Human Resources to choose employees based on race. They explain that they, “strongly urge the Board to engage an independent, neutral outside firm to conduct a comprehensive investigation,”
Their message concludes on the note that they “want the institution to succeed”, but if the administration does not take action against the alleged discrimination then they “will have no choice but to take our concerns public and also to the local press.”
