California gears up for a variety of elections for people to vote in, with this being the chance for the public to enact their civic responsibilities. While the main focus for many is the Governor’s race, there are also various positions that can be voted on for their final candidates.
June 2 marks the voting day for The Primary Election, which means that people will be able to select which candidates in each position will go on to the final ballot for Nov. 3. To put it simply, you get to vote on each nominee to go forward as the candidates for different positions.
For the state generally, Californians will be eligible to vote for individuals to fill the following positions:
Governor (see our California Governors Race Guide)
US Representatives for every district
Lieutenant Governor
State Attorney General
State Controller
State Treasurer
State Superintendent of Schools
State Tax Commissioner in districts 1 to 4
State Insurance Commissioner
In addition to the state-level being voted on, you, of course, will be able to vote for local candidates to fill local positions. This will vary by location, and position descriptions and candidates can be found online using various voting guides, including websites like Ballotpedia or Ballotready.
For Solano County, you will be able to vote for candidates to go onto the final ballot for the following positions:
the Assessor-Recorder of Solano
the Superintendent for the Solano County schools
several District Supervisors for District 3 and 4
the Auditor Controller position
the Clerk-Tax Collector Treasurer.
The primary election will be on June 2, with the main election then taking place on Nov. 3. Local positions will vary based on district location, based on the new redistricting from the Prop 50 election.
