On April 27th, 2026 the Academic Senate had their typical bi-weekly meeting. They went over the Testing Center in the Accessibility Service Center and the accessibility of the new SCC website. The Senate also covered new food vendors on all campuses, their elections, and bystander training.
After the standard motions to start the meeting, announcements from members of the senate took place. Adjunct Senator at Large, Denis Martinez announced that the Art History, Art, Photo, and Digital Media arts departments are hosting a student exhibition in the Herger Gallery. The exhibition runs until May 15th, 2026.
Once the Announcements section finished, Academic Senate President Josh Scott started with his updates. His main update was about the Accessibility Service Center (ASC) and their Testing Center. President Scott reported that there is about $1 million worth of California Golden State Pathways Program funding for the ASC. President Scott wants to utilize the funds best and has discussed how to best apply them with many people across the college.
President Scott then segued into the Testing Center and the services that it provides currently, and what might be added. He notes that recently there has not been a proper Testing Center for make up tests and for online course testing. Since online courses do not have proctored tests, there have been concerns about students cheating and it not being equitable nor fair.
President Scott describes a hypothetical solution to this issue, “People could offer online classes and then as a part of that offering, say that exams have to be in person and proctored” The hypothetical in-person tests would not have a set date or time, students would be able to go the Testing Center whenever to take their exams and quizzes. As for students who are unable to take the test in-person, a monitored remote test will still be available.
The Testing Center will be discussed further in the next academic senate meeting on May 11th, 2026 at 3pm.
The Vice President of Academic Affairs, Dr. David Williams, then gave his report. He discussed the new SCC website and how it has affected the availability of information about the college. The website is a main hub for students and faculty alike and Vice President Williams informed the Senate about the importance of it.
Lisa Neeley, the Vice President of Student Services, gave her own report focusing on the food on campus; mainly which vendors will be added and what can be considered in the future. She is working towards a request for proposal, an RFP, for a new food vendor. She and the ASSC have looked into new vendors for not only the main campus but also the Vallejo and Vacaville centers.
Vice President Neeley briefly mentioned both food trucks and food lockers during her report as well.
Later in the meeting the Academic Senate hosted their elections for the 2026-2027 academic school year. Those nominated for President, Vice President, Senator At-Large, and Part Time Faculty Senator At-Large were all elected in their respective positions due to them being the only people nominated. This election was distinct due to the lack of nominations for each category and the subsequent lack of voting.
Rachel Purdie was elected for President, LaNae Jaimez for Vice President, Matthew Schweitzer for Senator At-Large and Andrew Wesley for Part Time Faculty Senator At-Large.
The meeting concluded with a presentation about Bystander Intervention Training presented by the Committee of American-Islamic Relations. The training focused on how faculty should conduct themselves should ICE come to campus.
