SAN FRANCISCO – A chilly, overcast and seemingly regular Bay Area weeknight game would turn historical, as Warriors legend Stephen Curry hit his 4,000th career three-pointer, being the first ever player in NBA history to reach the mark. Alongside this historic moment, the Warriors would end up beating the Kings after an unrelenting barrage of three pointers in all 4 quarters.
Golden State came out the gate shooting the skin of the rock and didn’t look back, putting up 30 quick points in the first quarter while going 7/13 from three. The Kings just couldn’t stop them while not being able to buy a bucket, ending the first quarter with 12 points. With the first half coming to an end, Sacramento had managed to claw their way back slightly by cutting the lead to 10. Off the back of lights out shooting and disciplined defense, the Warriors went into the second half up 60-51.
The Third quarter wouldn’t prove much different from the previous ones as Warriors guard Buddy Hield added a methodical 11 points while going ⅗ from three with 4 assists. As the 4th came & went, the Dubs pulled away more, eventually winning at home 130-104. Golden State keeps on rolling, and they’re continuously building steam heading into April. With Coaching legend, Steve Kerr, adding the athletic scorer, Johnathan Kuminga, back to his lineup, this newly revamped team is just now finding its rhythm. Kuminga would go on to have an impressive return from injury against the Kings, going 7-10 on a crazy 70% from the field for 18 points.
The Jimmy Butler trade looks more and more impressive after every win, with the team now moving to 13-1 with Butler on the floor. Even with no one on the Dubs breaking 25 points tonight, the team looks more focused than at any point this season. The 6th place Dubs inch one win closer to the Rockets, who’re cozy right in that 5th spot.
As the regular season winds down and MVP contender, Shai-Gilgeous Alexander & the Oklahoma City Thunder solidify their place atop the West, the bottom of the playoff bracket becomes tighter and the race gets closer. While the Warriors have been playing great as of recent, other teams such as the Minnesota Timberwolves aren’t missing a beat, with Anthony Edwards and company handling the Joker and the Nuggets in Denver.
With just a few weeks left in the season, every game carries weight, and the Warriors are proving they have the shooting ability and depth to make a serious push in the West.
