From May 15 to May 21, students are taking final exams, finishing projects and turning in last assignments before the semester is officially over. For some students, finals week means trying to keep a grade they worked hard for all semester. For others, it means trying to pass a difficult class, finish strong or move one step closer to graduation or transferring.
You can feel finals week all over campus. Students are in the library studying, looking over notes before class, checking Canvas for deadlines and trying to find quiet places to focus. Some students may also use tutoring, counseling or the Wellness Center to help them get through the stress.
Finals week is not just about tests. It is about everything students have been trying to accomplish all semester. Many students are trying to focus on school and working a job; that is dedication. Other things they’re dealing with like family, money problems, transportation, mental health and personal struggles definitely adds to the stress and pressure. By the end of the semester, even one more assignment can feel like a lot.
Some students are also the first in their families to go to college, which can make finals week feel even heavier. They are not only carrying books, laptops and assignments, they are carrying hope for something better. Even when students are tired, stressed or unsure if they can finish, many still walk into class, open their notebooks and keep trying. That effort matters. It shows that success is not always easy, but students at Solano are willing to fight for their future one assignment at a time.
Finals week also shows how strong Solano students are. After months of lectures, homework, essays, quizzes, exams and late nights, students keep showing up because their goals matter. Whether they are working toward a degree, transferring to a university, learning a trade or just trying to build a better future, finals week is one last push before the finish line.
For many students, finals week is stressful, but it is also a reminder of how far they have come. At Solano Community College, the last week of the semester is not just about exams. It is about effort, resilience and finishing what they started.
