FAIRFIELD, CA.—This baseball season for the Solano Falcons has been a very intriguing one, with a record of 13-19, which may fool you into how you view this team. They had a slow start to the season going 4-12 in their first 16 games. Since then, they have gone 9-7, including a five-game winning streak. And what stood out from that streak was their incredible offense, as they scored 42 runs in five games. Meanwhile, they’ve only hit three home runs on the season.
This is a team that plays a lot of small ball. When you watch this team now compared to how they started, it’s night and day, and part of that is the coaching. Coach Stover has had a great impact on this team; he’s always had confidence in his guys.
The Falcons got into their stride once they entered conference play, as they are currently 8-5 in the conference. Their success began with the Los Medanos series. Losing a close one 4-3 and then winning the last two of the series 18-11 and 6-2. This was the first glimpse we got of their offensive power.
They continued this offensive surge into the Marin series. Though they lost the series, they played Marin tough; it took a walk-off three-run home run for Marin to take the first game. Solano has had problems with their pitching in the later innings, though there is a silver lining. Such as their ace Jared Orabuena, who has an ERA of 4.17 and 60 strikeouts.
Let’s get into how the Solano Falcons can finish the season strong and possibly get into the playoffs. They have had some great offensive production this past month and a half, notably from Michael Rivera, Teo Copp, and Mason Sayre. These three lead the team in RBI’s, Extra Base Hits, and at bats, they are all batting over .250 and getting on base a combined 40% of the time. This will have to continue as they face tough opponents in the division, Yuba, Mendocino, and Laney, to end the season. If they can win all of those series, they have a chance at taking the conference and clinching a spot in the playoffs.
