March 31, 2025, Solano Community College had a Grand Opening of the Outreach and Recruitment Office. The Outreach Program is a program to help students sign up for classes and plan for their semester, and as it states on the SCC website, the program is “dedicated to connecting students, community organizations, and businesses with SCC’s educational opportunities.”
The new Outreach Center office is now open for in-person consultation, “to serve both for inreach and outreach services” Robert Nunez stated. With Outreach they collaborate with Counseling to help students apply for classes and build out their schedule.
The Center serves current students, as well as those from other colleges and high schoolers, so they can get more information about the college and the programs at Solano. The Center also helps students complete their student applications to enroll at the college; CCCApply.
Nunez further explained the center’s resources are for potential new students and anyone who is currently enrolled. The Outreach Center welcome’s students to look up classes if they want to explore majors from the career assessment and student applications. They also show students the new Class Finder to register for upcoming classes.
Nunez announced that they offer tours in Fairfield, Vacaville, or Vallejo for incoming or prospective students which can be booked on the Solano student service page. They also host workshops and presentations that can accommodate groups of up to 100 people.
The goal is to have enough student support so students will be more prepared when they start their first semester of college.
The Center will also be used by Counselors to hold workshops that highlight partnerships with other programs, such as pathways to Law School.
The Outreach staff are well versed in CalWorks, Basic Needs, and generally being mentors for students. They will be collaborating with the MESA program, Veterans Resources, and the Puente Program, so when a student is unsure of what programs to apply for, they will be able to guide them to those programs.
Christana Lee, Director of Communications, asks students for their opinion on potential strategies. This leads to the Outreach specialists corresponding with the high school counselors and people from the work development force. Outreach is part of marketing to make the community aware that Solano is here to support its students.
When it comes to communications and marketing, Lee focuses on creating a plan to fulfill the “greater goal and vision of this college.” Outreach helps students who want to attend four-year universities with their academic journey.
They are now communicating with middle school counselors to show students the opportunity to transfer over to Solano. Lee, being part of the Outreach Center, says that “the mentors have been great, being part of higher education and serving students.”
The Outreach Center is open in the 400 building from Monday to Thursday, from 9am to 4pm.
