All hail the queen. The Renaissance Fair made its appearance at Solano Community College on April 19, 2025. It was created and organized by the theater department.
Queens, princesses, knights with shining armor it was a magical day for the students of Solano to bring out their mightiest and shiniest Renaissance attire. Filled with joy and cosplay, everyone was dressed as if it were the 1600s, living in the queen’s medieval castle empire.
There were students around the courtyard selling crystals, makeup, and clothes. Alongside pop-ups that had students make their own medieval princess hats. Face painting and student-led camera headshots were available for students to receive and enjoy.
All fun and games when all of a sudden the trumpets began to play. The queen had arrived. Accompanied by her empire, they marched in a single file line till reaching the castle courtyard. The queen presented herself high and mighty while her empire began to play music for her.
As the queen’s grand entrance came to an end, performances and activities began. First up three young women from Solano’s musical performance of “Head Over Heels” approached the courtyard castle. They sang “Good Girl” and “Head Over Heels” from the musical and had the audience stunned and filled with applause.
Next up, 2 of the sword fight choreographers from the musical performed. They had their shiny swords and gave the audience a show. A show that had the audience gasping at every second till it was over. At the end of the performance, they included volunteers from the audience, teaching them how to fight with swords. Of course, with pool noodles instead of real swords.
As the fight lesson ended, the queen’s empire began to play music for everyone to enjoy. Students got up from their seats and began to dance. There were solo dancers and group dancing. No one was left out. Everyone was included and had fun following the rhythm of the music.
For the grand finale, tea with the queen. Only the mightiest of all were able to join. By that I mean everyone, of course. Those who were in the queen’s presence, sipping tea, were all calm and went along with the medieval theme. Making it a successful tea time hour.
Therefore, the Renaissance fair was a huge success. Thanks to the theatre department, pop-up shop owners, and Solano’s student-led clubs. This event will stay in the memories of all those who attended. This experience allowed everyone to dress up and be creative for a day. Yet, let us all not forget what we learned that day. All hail the queen.
