The Academic Senate convened February 24, 2025 with President Josh Scott
discussing updates and reminders for the March 10, 2024 Senate Meeting. Furthermore updates on Campus Shuttle, while discussing Student Conduct and Executive Order being impacted for Community Colleges.
President Lanae Jaimez announced that President Dr. Kellie Butler was awarded with the PTK Paragon President Award. From the National Honor Society that she has supported throughout her presidential career.
Updates on Executive Orders Impacting California Community College
Dr. Kellie Butler discussed executive orders regarding Federal funding. Including Federal data repositories, and Equal Employment Opportunity. There has not been any clear direction from the state Chancellor’s Office to pause these activities. The college board and Dr Butler were reviewing compliances with the executive orders alongside with federal injunctions that have been filed with the Chancellor’s office. Therefore, accomplishing colleges continue to pursue business as usual. While continuing to monitor these activities and Updates.
Dr. Kellie Butler announced a “Dear Colleague” letter that was sent out on February 14 to Community Colleges. Stating that the letter was from the US Department Interior Land Management compelling compliance with two executive orders in particular.
Furthermore, including any racial and wasteful DEI programs. Along with the preference from gender ideology extremism. Therefore the biological truth, mainly stating that “the letter basically is asking colleges to refrain from any activities” stated from Butler.
Updates Campus Shuttle Project for Solano College, and the Three other Campuses
In Recent Updates Vice President Lisa Neesly confirmed that the Campus Shuttle had been appointed and adjourned from Solano Transit Board Meeting Authority. Which will launch on April 14, 2025. While reaching out to students and campaigning this tiding. In addition students have already been corresponding with these announcements. Even so, experiencing the out term of how the shuttle will be used for the Fairfield Main Campus, Vacaville and Vallejo. Which will give Solano community college students the opportunity of easy and free transportation.
SCC Maintaining Boundaries with Faculty and Students including with Office Hours
Joshua Scott received an email on February 24, 2025 restainting clear and healthy boundaries within students and faculty. During the meeting the Senate discussed questions about students’ experiences. Whether there was something to strengthen students’ relationships between faculty. The senate rephrases professional development opportunities that can be “helpful with students or teachers”. As the senate tries to discuss these boundaries students explained that they appreciated the healthy and respectable connection they had with their professors. Therefore, the Senate meeting tried to acknowledge the appropriate dynamics when coming together since the Campus is “not aware” about Faculty Office Hours.
The Next Senate Meeting will be held March 10, 2024 from 2:00- 3:00 Touring the ATEC Senate and the Vallejo Campus then heading back to the Vallejo Senate from 3:00-5:00 to meet with Vallejo Students.
