The Governing Board gathered again on October 16th for a meeting to discuss, most notably, an event celebrating incarcerated students’ literary achievements, the nursing students teaching people how to give narcan out, and parking lot 2 is finally open!
The first thing discussed in the meeting was the publishing of the incarcerated students in the Suisun Valley Review, the college literary magazine. There’s an event to highlight these works on November 7th from 2:30 to 3:30 in the library. This event is focusing on stereotypes about incarcerated people and celebrating these rising scholars.
This is in collaboration with the English department, the ethnic studies and social justice departments, the Suisun Valley Review, and Phi Theta Kappa.
Another event discussed is the nursing students project for the year, training students how to give out Narcan to overdosing people. This training is in collaboration with the nursing students, the EMT faculty, and Phi Theta Kappa.
Anyone who wants to learn can come to the cafeteria on November 22 from 10:30 to 12:30 and learn how to possibly save a life.
In other campus news, parking lot 2 is finally open and the solar panels are working! The new Superintendent- President Kelly Butler says “it’s been a long time coming.”
